single-shock rear suspensions,
disc brakes, share similar dimensions and weigh in at or slightly
above 300 pounds. And they're
all 50-state bikes. Yet, they all
have their distinct advantages
and disadvantages on the road
and on the trail. To find out what
they are, we used a wide range
of test riders, focusing mostly
on the input from our beginner,
novice and female riders, to find
out exactly what those advantages and disadvantages are.
We rode them over a variety of

terrain, from the desert to the
mountains, and just about everything in between. Afterward, we
talked to our testers about each
bike and then asked them to rate
them in order of preference.
And the general consensus
was...
Sometimes affectionately referred
to as "foo-foo" bikes, these
entry-level 250cc four-stroke
dual sporters have plenty to offer
for both the inexperienced and
experienced riders.
