VOL. 50 ISSUE 5 FEBRUARY 5, 2013 swer Young was looking for, but it was a truthful one. Gone are the days when teams overseas are clamoring to fly American racers over to race for them. No matter the strength of their resume. Like the AMA Superbike series here, they also face a tough economy and it's certainly cheaper to put a European rider on the bike than an American. Especially one who is used to being paid to race when so many others seem okay with racing for free. Or even paying to race. The answer for Young in 2013 might be to chase ambulances on both sides of the Atlantic. "I'm keeping my eye on the international racing as well," he said. "I'd love to maybe do a couple of wild card British Superbike races or even better yet some World Superbike – if I get the opportunity." With the now Dorna-run World Superbike Championship on the verge of dumbing down its rules to make the racing more affordable, there's a good chance of even more players taking part in that series next year. MV Agusta and KTM have feigned interest. And rules closer to Superstock might even bring more private teams into the mix – whether they opt for Ducatis, Aprilias, BMWs and the like. And more teams means more rides. So if Young could somehow get the chance to show them what he's capable of in a wild card or fill-in ride in either British Superbike or World Superbike, a door might open for 2014. But first he has to get the opportunity. For now the best answer for Young might be to listen to Cathcart's advice. Maybe he will need to buy a ticket, make visits to World Superbike and British Superbike races and hope for the best. That too will obviously be his plan for the AMA Superbike Series. It's a case of have leathers, will travel.
