FLAT TRACK
STOCKTON PREVIEW
STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY
LARRY LAWRENCE
B
randon Robinson comes
to round three of the AMA
Pro Flat Track Series presented by J&P Cycles with the
AMA Pro Grand National Championship points lead for the first
time in his career. The 22-yearold motorcycle racer from Oxford, Pennsylvania, is not just
thrilled to be in that position, he's
happy just to be racing at all.
In August of 2009, Robinson
suffered what at the time was
thought to be career-ending injuries as a result of a horrific firstturn crash at the Indy Mile. Fast
forward almost four years later
and Robinson is the very picture
of fitness, coming into the prime
of his career and perhaps for the
first time is a genuine championship contender.
"Those were some pretty dark
days," Robinson admits when
looking back on his Indy crash,
one of the worst in the long history of that race, which saw him
flipped over the outside fence in
a pile-up accident that resulted
in him suffering numerous broken bones and internal injuries.
"I honestly didn't know if I would
ever come back."
Bryan Smith (42) is running
the Crosley Radios/Howerton
Motorsports Kawasaki full time this
year and is expected to be a serious
contender for the championship.
How Smith and the Kawasaki does
on a half mile like Stockton is critical
to his chances.
