VOL. 50 ISSUE 20 MAY 21, 2013
In all seriousness, I am excited to see what the
rest of the world thinks of the Archives. I think it will
serve at least two purposes: a vital tool for those
doing research on our sport; and a way to spend
hour upon hour looking back in time for those who
just want to remember how things were. After all,
for the most part, no matter how old we are, the
generation in which we grew up is generally regarded by each of us as "the good old days." The
Cycle News Archives has your "good old days"
covered no matter if they were the '60s, the '70s,
the '80s, 'the '90s… or up to the 2000s. Cycle
News has been here for the duration so your
"good old days" are also our "good old days."
And the beauty of the old issues goes well beyond the editorial content. You can spend hours
pouring over the advertisements… and there's
nothing quite like going through classified ads
from 30 or 40 years ago. Don't you wish you'd
kept that Bultaco?
And yes… I've seen the T-shirts and bumper
stickers. In fact one used to occupy a spot in my Tshirt drawer a few decades ago – " We Don't Care
How The Hell They Do It In California." The famous
Cycle News East slogan that no one seems to forget – especially my old boss Jack Mangus, who
used to bring it up constantly when we worked together back at the Long Beach office.
So East fans there will be Cycle News East
issues available at some point. We've already
scanned most of the existing Cycle News issues,
including Cycle News West, and this in itself was
a huge project. Our goal was to get those issues
done first so our readers could start enjoying them
and we've been able to accomplish that. Now we
will address getting the Cycle News East versions
scanned and getting those to you as quickly as
possible. We will keep you updated and let you
know when the East issues are available.
In the meantime, I invite you all to visit the Archives and let us know what you think. To access
the issues and subscription information, click on
the following link www.cyclenews.com/archives.
Enjoy.
