Briefly...
really good for sure, but there were
definitely things I could have done
and not lost so much time. But the
track was rough today, and this is
the best I've felt at Southwick. It
was good not to have to deal with a
mechanical, or like last year when
the gas cap fell off."
Another key part was good "tearoff management," said Ryan Villopoto. "I think I started the race
with 14 tear-offs, and I had to really
manage my tear-offs and not pull a
lot of them at one time," said Villopoto. "I had to wait until I absolutely
had to pull one in order to see, so I
wouldn't use them all up before the
end of the race. I had to use a lot
of outside lines to get up to those
guys, and it obviously got harder to
do as I got up into the faster guys.
But then near the very end it got
easier again as guys started getting
tired."

Several riders and crew had problems getting into the Hartford area
because of the thunderstorms that
ravaged New England. Trey Canard had one of the most extreme
experiences, having to sit in the
Detroit airport for eight hours on
Friday before finally getting into the
Harford/Bradley airport at around
9 PM that night. "I was exhausted
by the time I got here," said Canard. "It ended up not being a
very good weekend and it seems
it started with my flights on Friday."
Jason Anderson had his connecting flight cancelled and spent most
of Friday night driving to the race
from Charlotte, North Carolina.
