ared and Nichole Mees, professional flat track motorcycle
racers who started dating when Nichole was 16 years old
and Jared was 17, are among an elite group of married
couples in professional sports who compete against each other
in the top level of their sport. Jared proposed to Nichole during
opening ceremonies at the Springfield Mile in September 2012.
The couple then married at the Springfield Mile in September
2013 in front of the huge race crowd. They'll be checking in with
us periodically throughout the AMA Pro Flat Track season.
she started dressing more like a
girl. She raced and was a chick,
which I thought was pretty cool.
Nichole: In 2003, we were
at a race in New Hampshire and
kind of talking. I beat him in the
Dash for Cash, then asked him
for a poster. We went into his
box truck to get the poster and
he kissed me. Right then, I knew
he was the one. It was love at
first kiss.
Jared: It was Oklahoma City.
Nichole: It was not. It was
New Hampshire.
Jared: It was Oklahoma City.
Nichole: Okay Mr. Always
Right. You're wrong, but what-
ever.
>>THE PROPOSAL
Jared: I like doing things way
unique, way different. I'm not
one to get on a boat, go watch
the sunset, and propose. We'd
been talking about getting mar-
ried. She'd been giving me a little
pressure, so I really wanted her
to be surprised.
Nichole: I had no clue he
was going to propose. I thought

Nichole: I saw him at Amateur
Nationals and told my cousins he
was cute, but I was nervous to
talk to him. His dad was a big guy
with a big beard and I thought he
might yell at me if I talked to his
son. So I always stayed back.
Jared: She was sort of a
tomboy, with thick glasses and
work boots. But at some point
