n March it was announced that
the Sacramento Mile was can-
celed. It was a major blow to
the AMA Pro Grand National Se-
ries to have one of its traditionally
better attended events off the cal-
endar, yet not a complete surprise
since the economics of flat track
racing can be a tricky proposition
at best. Then a little over a month
later, in May, it was announced
the Sacramento Mile was back
on for July 26. A new promoter
had stepped up to make the event
happen. The surprise was the
person who stepped up to save
The Sacto Mile is back on the schedule and
we have Steve McLaughlin to thank for it.
