IN THE WIND P32 The title chase was a battle between Sheehan and Kiwi Levi Sherwood, but Sherwood suffered an ankle injury during qualifying on Saturday that put him out of the final. That all but handed the title to Sheehan, who still turned up the heat enough to come away with the event win. "I've been wanting this for years, and it's a dream come true. I'm on top of the world," said an overwhelmed Sheehan. WHIBLEY WINS BIG BOTTOM XC OMA R ound six of the eight-race Parts Unlimited Off-Road Motorcycle and ATV (OMA) Na- tionals Series, the DP Brakes Big Bottom Cross Country, was held at the Brueggeman Family Farm in rural Plainview, Illinois, August 23, under brutal weather condi- tions. While the race length was cut back to one hour and 30 min- utes (plus a lap) for the leader, the total race length was still two hours due to the leader check- ing in on lap six at one hour and 29 minutes. And that leader was Paul Whibley on the N-Fab/Am- Pro/Monster Energy Yamaha. Whibley seemed undeterred by the oppressive heat and hu- midity, taking the FMF Holeshot and leading all seven laps to col- lect his fifth victory of the sea- son. Following Whibley, just over five minutes back, was veteran rider and former OMA Champion Jimmy Jarrett, who took second place aboard his JJR Off-Road KTM after starting dead last on the combined Pro 1 and Pro 2 starting line. Meanwhile, Adam Bonneur, on the Woodstock KTM/Fly Rac- ing Maxxis machine, rounded out the Pro 1 podium, finishing just 23 seconds behind Jarrett. Fourth place overall went to Pro 2 Fun Mart G2 OTR Ya- maha's Cody Bollinger who beat class points leader Mark Heresco on the SRT Off-Road/ Kenda KTM 250 two-stroke, to the checkers by just one and a half seconds, placing Heresco at number two in the pro 2 class and fifth overall.
